Polyimides can be widely used as a material for electro-optic devices on their own advantages such as excellent thermal property, good mechanical property and electrical property, etc. In this study, we had synthesized a series of polyamic acids from various aliphatic and aromatic dianhydrides such as cyclobutane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylic dianhydride [CBDA], 5-(2,5-Dioxo tetrahydrofuryl)-3-methyl-3-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic Anhydride [DOCDA] as well as pyromellitic dianhydride [PMDA]. All polyamic acid were synthesized in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone by the conventional two-step method and followed by solution imidization. The polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, NMR, DSC we had determined general properties such as solubility, thermal properties, transparency and hardness. Further, we have investigated the relationship of chemical structure and electro-optic properties of polyimides layer.
