제목 Photoinitiator-Free Photopolymerizations of Maleimides and Vinyl Ethers Based on Electron-Donor/Acceptor System
초록 The most critical component in all photopolymerization systems is the photoinitiator (PI), which absorbs light efficiently and generate radicals or cation/anion species capable of initiating radical/ionic polymerization of monomers. The efficient photoinitiated radical polymerization by excited state maleimides has been shown to be operative in numerous electron-acceptor/donor pair combinations. The strong hydrogen abstractability of the excited triplet state maleimides (MI) has been evaluated for the initiation of radical photopolymerization of acrylates. In contrast to the common radical PIs, the unique feature of maleimides in general is the dual effect of simultaneously acting as a photoinitiator and as a polymerizable monomer. Maleimides are utilized in PI-free formulations undergoing efficient photopolymerization along with vinyl ether monomers upon UV exposure based on a electron-donor/acceptor (EDA) polymerization. Radical photopolymerizations of equimolar amounts of maleimides (RMI) and vinyl ethers (R'VE) were investigated with or without external PIs in the study. {image1}
