Effect of N-donor substituents of asymmetric tridentate [N,N,N] Co(II) complexes on ethylene oligomerization behavior |

Late transition metal catalysts for oligomerization and polymerization of olefins have become a topic of special interest in both academy and industry due to their less oxophilic nature. Various Schiff base ligands have been reported especially due to their easy preparation and promising catalytic properties of their late transition metal complexes. We report the synthesis and ethylene oligomerization behavior of cobalt complexes supported by a new family of pendant donor-modified α-diimine ligands. A series of catalysts having the general formula [R-N(CH2)2N]=Ac=[N(2,6-C6H3iPr)] [CoCl2] (R = Me, Et, iPr) were synthesized. All catalysts were active towards ethylene oligomerization showing activity exceeding 105 g-oligomer/molCohbar when activated with methyl aluminoxane (MAO) as a cocatalyst. Isopropyl substituted catalysts showed the best performance, producing C4 and C6 as main products. |
