In this study, diglycidylether of bisphenol A-fluorine (DGEBA-F) epoxy copolymers were synthesized by reaction of DGEBA with 4-chlorobenzotrifluoride in the presence of tetraisopropyl titanate catalyst by using hot-melt method. The chemical structure of DGEBA-F was confirmed by FT-IR, 13C NMR, and 19F NMR spectroscopy. The curing behaviors, glass transition temperature (Tg), and dielectric constant of the DGEBA-F/DDM system were compared with DGEBA/DDM system by using dynamic DSC, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and dielectric spectrometer, respectively. For the mechanical properties of the specimens, the fracture toughness and impact tests were performed, and their fractured surfaces were examined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, the dielectric constant values of DGEBA-F/DDM system were lower than those of DGEBA/DDM system and the mechanical properties of the cured DGEBA-F specimen were higher than those of DGEBA specimen. This was probably due to the fact that the introduction of trifluoromethyl (CF3) group into the side chain of the epoxy resins, resulting in improving the electric and mechanical properties of the cured DGEBA-F epoxy copolymers.
