The poly isosorbide carbonate(ISBPC) has a high potential applications as optical materials in electronic electricity industry. Due to their high UV stability, Refractive index and low birefringence. The ISBPC was synthesized by melt polycondensation of dimethyl carbonate and isosorbide using the La or Cs catalyst(lanthanum(III) acetylacetonate, cesium carbonate). We wanted to find out influence of catalyst type and their concentration on molecular weight and thermal property for isosorbide based polycarbonate in lab scale. Cs catalyst appeared more efficient than the La catalyst. So We tried to synthesis 5L batch scale at Cs catalyst condition. The qualitative properties of ISBPC were analyzed by 1H NMR spectroscopy, high temperature-GPC and differential scanning calorimetery (DSC) to know their thermal behavior. From experimental result molecular weight of ISBPC using Cs catalyst was 33,000 g/mol at 500 ppm (concentration) and another molecular weight of polycarbonate using La catalyst was obtained 33,400 g/mol at 2000 ppm. We found out that similar molecular weight of isosorbide based polycarbonate can be obtained of 35,000 g/mol at 5L sized reactor. |
