Amplification and Transportation of Azobenzene Molecular Machines to Smart Materials by the Control of Hierarchical Nanostructures |

We thought that as long as we have molecular functionality, their corresponding polymer materials must also possess the same functional properties. In reality, we have failed many times in designing and achieving the target materials. Therefore, we need to control the hierarchical structure and morphology to transfer and amplify molecular functions to the ultimate physical property of the materials at a specific length scale. We successfully demonstrated smart actuators and optical switches by the synthesis of programmed azobenzene molecular machines and the control of hierarchical nanostructures by the combination of top-down and bottom-up methods. |
