Topology control of polymersomes of dendritic-linear diblock copolymers |

Self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers is widely used for creating soft nanostructure with desired size and shape. In most cases, morphology of nano structures formed by self-assembly of block copolymers is dictated by the volume ratio between two polymer blocks with distinct miscibility. We designed a new series of block copolymers that possess fixed molecular weight and block ratio between hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks. Hydrophilic dendritic blocks have fixed molecular weight but different number of peripheral chains depending on the generation. These block copolymers exert a unique energetic effect specifically at the interface when block copolymers formed condensed phases. As a result, morphology and topology of micelles and vesicles formed by self-assembly of these dendritic-linear block copolymers showed a strong dependence on the architecture of the dendritic hydrophilic block. |
