We have performed structural analysis of pitch precurosrs prepared by modified oxidative thermal treatment. To prepare the pitch precursors, pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) was used as a starting material and heat treated under blowing of a O2/N2 mix gas. Structural changes during the treatment were examined according to O2 concentration of the gas using EA, MALDI-TOF-MS, FTIR and NMR. The result showed that the oxidative thermal teatment promoted condensation reaction between pitch constituents. In addition, it was observed that at low O2 concentrations of the reaction gas the main reaction was a dehydrogenative condensation. While, when the concentration became higher, decarboxylation-induced condensation became dominant accompanying with carbon loss. |
