초록 | The presentation will include the following topics. Contribution of Membrane to Energy Saving 1) Compactness and process intensification: By reducing the size of the membrane system, energy requirement can also be reduced. The ultimate goal of intensification is membrane chips. 2) Performance enhancement by hybrid system: Membrane bioreactor was a successful example for wastewater treatment. Combination of solar-energy and membrane distillation is being attempted for seawater desalination. 3) Elimination and reduction of heat input to the process: Distillation to reverse osmosis is a typical example. Vapor separation is more economical than pervaporation for alcohol/water separation. Contribution of Membrane to Energy Production 1) Direct osmosis: It is an old story but now reinvestigated. 2) Polymeric Membrane for Fuel Cells: New materials are being searched for. 3) Fuel value enhancement: CO2 removal from land-fill gas. Other topics 1) Increase of membrane module production: Flux increase in RO membrane and gas separation membrane is a continuing subject. 2) Module design: Elimination of concentration polarization is being attempted. 3)Fouling reduction: Novel membranes with reduced fouling are now fabricated based on hydrophilic, charged and smooth surface. |
