제목 Comparative Investigation of Bulk and Thin Film SOFCs with Direct Ammonia (NH3) Fuel
초록 Ammonia (NH3) is an attractive carbon free energy carrier. Conventional solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) operated above 700℃ can directly utilize NH3 fuel due to its Ni-rich fuel electrodes and high temperature operation. However, direct NH3 SOFC operated at low-to-intermediate temperature (500 to 650℃) have drawbacks both in electrochemical reaction and NH3 decomposition reaction. In this work we compared conventional SOFC and high performance thin-film SOFCs (TF-SOFC) under H2 and NH3 fuel at 500 ~ 650℃. TF-SOFC showed record-high performance for direct NH3 operation. However, limited NH3 decomposition reaction at lower temperature led to large performance gap between H2 and NH3 fuel. Addition of NH3 decomposition catalyst is required to further increase the performance of direct NH3 TF-SOFCs.
