Freestanding TiO2 nanotube arrays for efficient dye-sensitized solar cells |

The three-dimensional network of TiO2 nanoparticles is most frequently used material for electron collecting layer of DSSCs. One of limitation factors in nanoporous film is the random electron diffusion inside of the working electrode, which induces numerous possible recombination reactions of the photoinduced electrons with redox species. Recently, application of highly ordered TiO2 nanotubes to DSCs has attracted considerable interest due to its ordered architectures, which provides shorter electron-transport time than conventional disordered nanoparticle systems. Grimes et al. reported 6.89% of power conversion efficiency, from a backside-illuminated DSSC. However, the cell performance can be limited in the way of the backside illuminated condition because the counter electrode partially reflects light and the electrolyte absorbs photos. To overcome the limitation, we investigate various reported methods to get freestanding TiO2 nanotubes membrane, and test the device performance. |
