Preparation and characterization of epoxy resin/epoxidized castor oil/nano-CaCO3 composites |

In this study, the epoxy composites were prepared by blending of epoxy resin, epoxidized castor oil (ECO), and nano-CaCO3. The content of ECO was varied from 10 wt% to 40 wt% and the content of nano-CaCO3 was 1 wt%. N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH) was used as a thermal cationic latent initiator. The thermal properties of epoxy resin/epoxidized castor oil/nano-CaCO3 composites were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effects of ECO and nano-CaCO3 on the mechanical properties of the composites were studied by impact strength measurements. The fracture surfaces of the composites after the impact tests were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, the impact strength of the composites was increased with increasing the ECO content. |
