In this work, hexagonal phase of boron carbon nitride (BCN) nanosheets has been synthesized by single step solvothermal method. Structural, morphological and optical analysis has been done using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UV-visible spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. In PL, we observed a sharp peak (3.64 eV) attributed from band-to-band transitions of the BCN direct band, and a broad emission band (2–2.9 eV) due to defect states from the sp2 domain. The syntehsized material has also been explored for hydrogen volution reaction (HER) performance which demonstrates high performance owing to the presence of defect states in BCN. Due to improved stability, BCN nanosheets can be explored as electrode material in supercapacitors and batteries. |
