Biodegradable polymers have been often used in place of conventional non-degradable polymers for industrial and medical applications. In particular, polyesteric polymers have been regarded as a popular eco-friendly plastic and have many advantages like good biocompatibility and processability. However, these polymers may have limitations for medical applications, due to mechanical strength, problems with biological safety during processing, etc. In this talk, I will discuss how to enhance the mechanical strength of widely used biodegradable polymers while maintaining their biocompatibility and the conditions of satisfying the need for these polymers to be used in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Also, I will introduce their various medical applications. |
