Nitric oxide (NO), which has excellent functions such as re-endothelialization, inhibition of smooth muscle cells, and prevention of activation and aggregation of platelets, plays an important role in maintaining a healthy heart and blood vessels. In this study, we fabricated nanoparticles that α-lipoic acid (ALA) is conjugated on zinc oxide (ZO) (ZA). And then poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) composites containing the ZA were prepared (PLLA/ZA). ZO and ALA catalytically induces the generation of NO for existent S-nitrosothiols (RSNO) in blood and tissue. NO generated by the PLLA/ZA not only increased proliferation of endothelial cells and decreased proliferation of smooth muscle cells, but also inhibited adhesion and activation of platelet. It suggests a new platform for designing a biodegradable cardiovascular implant including stents with improved re-endothelialization and inhibited restenosis and thrombosis. |
