Copper sulfide is a p-type semiconductor whose band gap varies upon stoichiometric composition and crystal phase (1.1-2.0 eV). Its suitable band-gap, low-toxicity, high absorbance and low-cost makes it suitable material for solar cells, nonvolatile memory devices, gas sensing, photothermal therapy and solar shielding materials. Therefore, we synthesized CuS nanoparticles with mild reaction conditions using copper sulphate as precursor and ammonia sulphide as sulphur source and plant extract as capping agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, SEM, XRD, EDX, and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. The obtained nanoparticles were further applied on PET substrate after made it as a sol and their solar shielding properties were studied.
