Curing behaviors of epoxy resins via cationic copolymerization with poly(propylene glycol) |

Curing of epoxy resins via cationic polymerization can be carried out at relatively low temperature. Copolymerization of epoxy resins with various polyols can occur without difficulties. We have investigated curing behaviors of bisphenol A type epoxy resins with different polyols in the presence of boron trifluoride diethyl etherate employing DSC. We found that the cationic copolymerization of epoxy resins and polyols showed autocatalytic effects. Thus, a semi empirical model proposed by Kamal was used to get kinetic parameter for the curing. Activation energy for the cure was lowered with increasing the content of butyl glycidyl ether, mono epoxide moiety. |
