Organic-inorganic hybrid materials are recognized as a new class of advanced materials because they can be synthesized or processed using versatile approaches and properties. Inorganic materials, such as silica, exhibit excellent thermal stability and hardness. Especially, the silica porous materials have become known for their catalytic, optical, and biological properties. Among aromatic polymers, polyimides exhibit good thermal and mechanical properties and lower dielectric constants than others. These hybrid materials have batter thermal and mechanical properties than their parent materials. We have fabricated silica hollow spheres through condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate(TEOS) using anionic polystyrene particles as template. Polyimides using pyromellitic anhydride(PMDA) and 4,4’-oxydianiline(ODA) are prepared through imidization of the two-step poly(amic acid) process. We characterized the polyimide/silica hollow sphere composite films. |
