A novel planar small molecules consisting of phenathrothiadiazole as donor materials for photovoltaic device |

For the development of new renewable energy sources, organic photovoltaics (OPVs) with bulk heterojunction (BHJ) architecture attracted considerable attention from research area in the recent years. To date, benzothiadiazole (BTD) has been an essential acceptor material in the design of donor polymers for bulk-heterojunction solar cells because of its absorption properties, high mobilities, and excellent photovoltaic performance. Lowering of the LUMO level through modification of the acceptor component in these D-A copolymers will enable improved light-harvesting characteristics, and adding fused aromatics should lead to a higher degree of crystallinity in the eventual oligomers, which could provide superior charge-transport properties. The HOMO–LUMO energy bandgaps of this material shows 1.81 eV for PBDTPT. |
