Ascorbic acid has various cosmetic effects, such as whitening, collagen regeneration, prevention of photoaging and anti-inflammatory effects. However, it has not been widely used as cosmetic ingredient, because it lose rapidly color and odor in a shorter period of time when it is exposed by external environment such as water, air. Therefore, many efforts and researches have been made to stabilize ascorbic acid in aqueous solution. The aim of the present study was to prepare and evaluate ascorbic acid loaded gelatin nanoparticles to enhance its stability and skin permeability as compared to parent ingredient. Ascorbic acid loaded gelatin nanoparticles were prepared, optimized and characterized by morphology, particle size, entrapment efficiency, stability, free radical scavenging activity and in vitro skin permeation. In light of the experimental results we can expect gelatin nanoparticles to be stable and very efficient as a carrier for transdermal delivery of ascorbic acid. |
