Hydroxylated boron nitride nano-sheet for in vitro cell imaging and dopamine sensing |

By last decade two dimensional (2D) materials have attracted great attention due to their unique and novel properties. In this research, we have introduced a comparatively new 2D material boron nitride which is also known as white graphene. We have optimized a facile and convenient process for preparing water-soluble hydroxyl-functionalized hexagonal boron nitride (hBN-OH) from BN. The hBN-OH (2-3 nm thickness) contains ~40% oxygen measured by TEM-EDS. The as synthesized hBN-OH exhibits blue emission with a quantum yield of approximately 36%. In vitro cytotoxicity test in cancer cell demonstrated that hBN-OH does not exert significant toxicity. Hemolytic test also attributes good blood compatibility profile of hBN-OH. The fluorescent hBN-OH could be used to in vitro cell imaging. Most importantly, we have investigated that the hBN-OH can be used for the in vitro detection of biomolecules through electrochemical analysis. |
