제목 PERFORMANCE OF POLYSTYRENE IMPREGNATED MORTAR IN CHEMICAL ENVIRONMENTS
초록 In this work Polymer Impregnated Concrete (PIC) was prepared by impregnating a mixture of styrene (monomer) and AIBN (initiator), into precast cement mortar (OPC) after which styrene was polymerised by microwave radiations and conventional thermal methods. It was observed that durability, expressed in terms of the percentage retention of the original compressive strength, was 50% more for the PIC specimens as compared to 11% in case of the OPC specimens. This is attributed to the protective sheath formed by the polymer and the sealing of the pores around the cement matrix which prevent permeation of external chemicals into the cement matrix.
