Recently many researches have been performed to enhance various physical properties of PLA by applying CNT as a modifier, since CNT exhibits a combination of properties of high strength, high modulus, high thermal resistance, and good conductivity. In this study, to improve the compatibility of MWNT with PLA matrix in PLA/MWNT nanocomposites, we prepared a series of PLA-grafted MWNTs by ring opening polymerization of L-lactide with carboxylic acid-functionalized MWNT initiator in the presence of stannous octoate catalyst. PLA-grafted MWNTs synthesized were characterized by using 1H NMR, FT-IR, TGA and TEM, and were composited with PLA homopolymer to obtain PLA/MWNT nanocomposites with enhanced thermal and mechanical properties. |
