Multifunctional Microcarrier with Polymer Micelle |

Nano-sized particles (NPs) have attracted attention due to the promising applications including electronic, optical devices and bio-imaging. Especially, imparting water solubility for these NPs is imperative for a biological applications. In this study, CdSe NPs were encapsulated into the polymer micelles and could be dispersed in water. We synthesized the amphiphilic polymers, nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA)-end functionalized polystyrene, by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) using N',N'-Bis[(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)methyl]-N''-Bromoisobutyryl-L-lysine tert-Butyl Ester as initiator. These amphiphilic structures have the ability to assemble into multiple morphologies in solution. These encapsulators were prepared by first dissolving the polymers with the NPs (CdSe) in a common solvent (THF) and then adding water. We characterized the morphology of aggregates using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). |
