Polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) is a promising candidate for photocatalytic hydrogen production, but suffers from insufficient light absorption and sluggish charge carrier transfer. Herein, co-catalysts deposited on the surface plane of carbon nitride were synthesized by thermal polymerization of urea and in-situ photodeposition of co-catalyst precursors. The carbon nitride with co-catalyst could simultaneously facilitate photoelectron transport and suppress charge recombination through their enhanced charge transfer at the interface. And efforts to tune the electronic structure of carbon nitride by introducing hetero atoms affected on light absorption property, contributing to greater visible light absorption. As a result, the modified carbon nitrides exhibited efficient photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. |
