In recent years, much attention has been focused on the replacement of petroleum-based commodity plastics with biomass-based plastics. Polyurethane (PU) is one of the most versatile polymers because of its structural flexibility. PU is produced from condensation polymerization between polyols and isocyanates. Currently, both of polyols and isocyanates are petroleum-derived monomers. In this study, we produced polyol from palm oil residues using liquefaction with PEG-blended glycerol as liquefaction solvents in the presence of sulfuric acid at moderate temperature. Various reaction conditions were optimized for an efficient production of polyol from palm oil residues. |
