Over the last two decades, the use of SMC in structural applications, has increased tremendously due to their inexpensive process to produce UP-based fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) composites, and excellent surface quality of the final products. Carbon nanotubes(CNT) exhibit exceptional Young’s modulus and tensile strength as high as 1 TPa and 200 GPa respectively, in addition to high thermal and electrical conductivities. However, little work has been done to explore the use of CNT to boost the performance of glass-reinforced plastics considering that CNTs exhibit the potential to boost their performance substantially even when added in small volume fractions. In this study, we prepared the CNT/UP/Glass fiber composites by SMC method. The effect of dispersity and the contents of CNTs on the mechanical and electrical properties of SMC parts were investigated in this article. |
