The ionic polymer metal composite (IPMC) is a flexible actuator which shows a large bending deformation under the low electric field (1-3 V). In addition, IPMC can be used as sensors and transducers due to its transduction property. In this study, the effect of various aqueous solutions as an inner solution for IPMC was investigated. It has been found that the use of a mixture of water and polar organic solvent may reduce the loss of water during the actuation of the IPMC film due to electrolytic stability, high boiling point and viscosity of polar organic solvents investigated, while the response rate and tip displacement slightly decrease. D2O, aqueous solution of DMSO-d6 and methyl cellosolve, however, seem to be good candidates as the inner solution for IPMC. |
