Functionalized graphene stably dispersible in water and poly(vinyl alcohol) |
초록 |
Graphene, prepared by thermal reduction of graphite oxide, was modified covalently via a novel method utilizing the inherent defects of graphene as active sites in order to minimize the negative effect on the unique properties of graphene generally caused by modification. That is, the epoxide groups on the basal plane of graphene were reacted with ethanolamine and then with n-butyl bromide to prepare graphene decorated with cationic ammonium ions (AAG). The homogeneous colloidal dispersion of AAG in water was maintained stably at least six months, which showed that the bulky ammonium moiety efficiently caused electrostatic repulsion as well as volume exclusion effect, and thus afforded AAG long-term colloidal stability. The extraordinarily high modulus enhancement by AAG, and the electric conductivity improvement by controlled agglomeration of AAG demonstrated that AAGs were well-dispersed in a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix. |
