Devulcanization of waste rubber |

Waste rubber mainly from tires, tubes, hoses and conveyor belts, belong to non-environmentally friendly materials. Several techniques have been proposed for waste rubber recycling, including mechanical, thermo mechanical, microbial desulfurization, ultrasound and microwave. This report describes the thermochemical devulcanziation of waste rubber powder by Si69(Bis-[3-(triethoxysilylpropyl)]-tetrasulfide) as reclaiming agent for the first time. The thermochemical devulcanizaiton process was carried on internal mixer at different temperature with different dosage of Si69. The devulcanization degree was characterized by Mooney viscosity and sol content of reclaimed rubber, crosslink density and molecular weight between two crosslink bonds of gel. It turned out that the function of Si69 has dual nature. And the fracture surface of revulcanizated rubber was observed by SEM, which indicated the relationship between devulcanization degree and properties of reclaimed rubber. |
