Residence time, or mixing time is the one of the important parameters to prepare the polymer composite using melt processing technique. In this paper, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)/polypropylene (PP) composites were prepared with 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 min of residence time. The effect of residence time on dispersion state of SWNT, cross linking effect of PP and its relationship was systematically and experimentally explored. Possible length reduction of SWNT due to long residence time was analyzed. As the increase of residence time, cross linking effect of PP was accelerated, leading to the formation of gel content. The results of rheological, mechanical and electrical property shows that PP/SWNT composite made by 40 min of residence time shows best performance, implying that certain amount of gel content improve the dispersion state of SWNT. |
