제목 Ion Activites of Polymeric Membrane/Solvent Systems in Fuel Cells : The Group-Contribution Method
초록 A group-contribution method based on the modified perturbed hard-sphere-chain model and RPM theory is developed and applied to describe the ionic activity of the polymer electrolyte/water systems. The group-contribution modification permits the prediction of water activity, given only the structure of the polymer and solvent involved. The proposed model includes reference contribution introducing Chapmman’s equation into the bonding term. In addition, the van der Waals attractive contribution is considered as the perturbation term. The ion association is incorporated into the restricted-primitive model to account for the strong attraction between unlike ions.
In this study, we develop the ionic activity model based on the thermodynamic framework of both PHSC model and RPM using group-contribution method. The MPHSC-RPM can accurately predict water activities of several commercial perfluorosulfonic membranes with experimental sorption data. Quantitative description according to the proposed model is in good agreement with experimentally observed water activities of polymer electrolyte fuel cell systems.
