We report enhanced external quantum efficiency (EQE) and absorption in organic solar cells in visible wavelength with modifying the size and shape of MNPs. Firstly, we revealed that the forward scattering efficiency depending on the size of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) (10 ~ 100 nm) considerably influences the performance and the best power conversion efficiency (PCE) was achieved at 70 nm AgNPs when they were embedded in the poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) : poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). Secondly, we designed core-shell Au@Ag nanocube (NC) and found that a thin Ag shell acted as a strong plasmonic scattering enhancer. The Au@Ag NCs-deposited device improved EQE and absorption 2.2-fold in visible wavelength compared to the conventional gold nanoparticles-based devices. Highly efficient plasmonic devices were fabricated by embedding the Au@Ag NCs in PEDOT:PSS, and the PCE was improved to 9.2 % from 7.9 % in polythieno[3,4-b]thiophene/benzodithiophene (PTB7)-based solar cells. |
