Synthesis and applications of amphiphilic hyperbranched polyglycidols by using various nonpolar alkyl groups |

Hyperbranched macromolecules are of considerable interest as a potential alternative for the perfectly branched dendrimers that have to be constructed in a usually tedious stepwise approach. We have synthesized amphiphilic core-shell structure using hyperbranched polyglycidols as core and alkyl groups having different functionalities as shell. The polyglycidols with nonpolar shells were prepared by a two-step approach. In the first step, glycidol was polymerized using trimethylolpropane as the initiator by ring opening polymerization. In the second step, the hyperbranched polyglycidols were partially modified using nonpolar alkyl groups. The resulting amphiphilic polymers are expected to be with core-shell structure that are aggregation-free in solution and lead to unimolecular micelle. |
