제목 Study on performance enhancement of polymer electrolyte membrane modified by layer-by-layer self-assembly for fuel cells
초록 Methanol crossover and water dehydration were major obstacles to commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). In this work, multilayered nanofilms were deposited on the Nafion membrane by layer-by-layer self-assembly between polyanions and polycations to improve obstacles. Polyaniline(PANi) was used as a polycation and sulfonated poly(ethersulfone)(SPES) as a polyanion. The modified membrane exhibited higher methanol resistance than the pristine one without significant decrease of the proton conductivity. The performance of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) based on the modified one was improved than that of the pristine one at high methanol concentration. The PANi/SPES multilayers prevented water dehydration from the membrane up to 120 ℃, while dehydration of the pristine Nafion occurred at about 100 ℃. Hence the performance of the PEMFC using the modified Nafion membrane was much better than that of prisine nafion at high temperature.
