A Study on the blending of biomass polycarbonate and Bisphenol A based Polycarbonate |

The research of biomass based polycarbonate (ISB PC) is being actively carried out due to growing interest in eco-friendly materials. As the mole ratio of isosorbide increases, the thermal stability improves owing to its bicyclic ether structure and decrease mechanical properties such as impact strength. To compensate for these shortcomings, we try to blend ISB PC and bisphenol A polycarbonate (BPA PC) with synthesized compatibilizer using dibuthyltin dilaurate (DBTDL). In general glass transition temperature (Tg) behavior is a important parameter in determining for compatibility of two different polymer. In our study we investigate the Tg shift of two polymer with compatibilizer content via dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) or differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The blends of BPA PC(Tg=147.5℃) with IBP-BPA PC(Tg=152.8℃) show two distinct Tgs corresponding to their parent polymers, whereas the blends of two polymers with DBTDL exhibits a single Tg(143.6℃). |
