The phase change material (PCM) nanocapsules with paraffin wax or n-hexadecane core and polystyrene shell were prepared. Paraffin wax was partially replaced by n-hexadecane to increase the heat capacity of core. Miniemulsion polymerization method is selected for the nano-sized encapsulation of PCM. The factors related to the thermal properties of PCM nanocapsule were analysed in aspect of chemical structures of crosslinking agents, amount of surfactant, and the ratio of PCM to monomer. It was assumed that Oswald ripening makes an important role for the control of particle size, particle morphology, and thermal capacity of nanocapsule core. It was found that the thermal capacity was also dependent on hydrophilicity and crosslinking density of shell components. |
