Due to their high photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) efficiency, polyfluorenes (PFs) are a highly attractive class of conjugated organic materials for the applications in polymer light emitting devices (PLEDs). A new asymmetric fluorene monomer was synthesized by introducing a methoxy group and a 4-hexyloxy-phenyl group at C-9 position of fluorene unit. A novel PF copolymer of the monomer was synthesized via the Heck coupling reaction. This PF copolymer emitted green light (lmax=509nm). The optical characteristics of the copolymer were observed at various blending compositions with poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVK). The PF copolymer showed reversible color change from green to dark violet after contacting with organic acids or Lewis acids. The PL, EL properties, and application aspects of the PF copolymer will be discussed as well. |
