The phase behavior of poly(2-vinyl pyridine)-block-poly(4-vinyl pyridine) copolymers (P2VP-b-P4VP) was investigated by using small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), rheometry, and birefringence. For this purpose, P2VP-b-P4VP with various molecular weights and block ratios were synthesized by anionic polymerization. And we determined temperature-dependent interaction parameters (α) for P2VP/P4VP pairs by obtaining SAXS profiles at varying temperatures, and curve fitting to the random phase approximation (RPA) theory. In this study, we found out that the P2VP-b-P4VP copolymer exhibit the order-to-disorder transition upon heating, similar to polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) and polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) copolymers, and for P2VP/P4VP pair is relatively large. For instance, it is larger than for PS/P2VP pair. |
