Bioethanol Production from Miscanthus Hydrolysates and Evaluation of Overall Process Based on Material Balance |

In our previous work, the pretreatment of Miscanthus straw using dilute acid was successfully optimized by statistical method. Under the optimum conditions, the overall sugar recovery was about 4-fold enhanced compared with the control (none-treatment). In this study, the produced sugar (Miscanthus hydrolysates) was utilized as a carbon source of medium for bioethanol production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae K35. As a result, the bioethanol yield was found to be 96%, and the negative effects were not shown during the fermentation. The overall process, biomass into ethanol production, was evaluated by material balance, and moreover the process was simulated by Super Pro Designer program. |
