Thermally stable PET/inorganic hybrid nanocomposites with improved transparency |

Polyethylene terephthalate(PET) is widely used as beverage containers due to its toughness, transparency, gas barrier properties. But it has a limitation of low heat distortion temperature (HDT) for hot filled bottle. HDT of PET/clay composites was improved through introducing clay in PET, but transparency of composites was significantly decreased due to irregular crystallization. In this work, we tried to introduce novel PET/clay/CaCO3(calcium carbonate) system to improve both HDT and transparency of composites. PET/clay/CaCO3 composites were prepared by twin extruder and characterized by DSC, POM and TMA. Therefore, both PET/Clay system and PET/clay/CaCO3 hybrid system were improved thermal stability than plain PET. Especially, transparency of hybrid system was slightly improved compared with only clay system. |
