제목 A study on sulfonated Kraton® based ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMCs)
초록 Ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMCs) show large bending deformation if placed under an electric field, are used as biomimetic sensors, actuators and artificial muscles. Since last two decades, active research is going on to improve the cost-effectiveness and performance of the IPMCs for various applications. In this regard, we chose Kraton-G®, a hydrogenated styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene block copolymer as a starting material to make the corresponding electrolyte membrane to be used in IPMC applications. The elastic mid-block domains and, physical cross-linking and reinforcing effects of end-block domains make the Kraton® polymers high performance elastomers. To make the electrolyte membrane, we have selectively sulfonated the Kraton-G® copolymer to get the ionomers of various ion exchange capacities. The characterization and intended applications of the corresponding IPMCs will be presented in detail.
