In Dye-sensitized solar cells, the most successful charge-transfer sensitizers employed are ruthenium polypyridyl complexes yielding 9-11% solar-to-electric power conversion efficiency and show absorption in the visible region at around 535 nm. The further shift in the absorption wavelength of the ruthenium (II) sensitizers into the NIR region may increase the overall efficiency of the DSSCs. In this context, we have successfully synthesized the 1, 3-disubstituted Squaraine dye that is covalently linked to 2,2’-dipyridines and its ruthenium complex. The absorption spectrum of ruthenium complex is red shifted and distinctive of the bipyridines, squaraine and ruthenium (II) centre. |
