제목 Properties of polyurethane elastomers prepared from isosorbide
초록 Polyurethane (PU) is one of versatile polymers for wide applications. PU elastomer which is usually prepared from PU prepolymer and the chain extender is a segmented block copolymer composed of soft and hard segments. Isosorbide is a bicyclic diol derived from glucose. Isosorbide may be used as the chain extender of PU elastomer which becomes a part of hard segment. In this study, we have investigated thermal and mechanical properties of PU elastomers prepared from a prepolymer of poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) and 4,4′-methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) and isosorbide as a chain extender. It was found that glass transition temperatures and Young’s moduli of PU elastomers obtained by chain extension with isosorbide increased with increasing the content of isosorbide in the PU. It is speculated that PU obtained by chain extension with isosorbide underwent less microphase separation compared with PUs prepared from the conventional chain extenders.
