Polyurethanes (PU) are very versatile materials with a wide range of physical and chemical properties. PU elastomer is a segmented block copolymer composed of soft and hard segments. Aromatic polyol has been widely used for rigid PU foams industry as the aromatic polyol can improve thermal and mechanical properties as well as chemical resistance. In this study, we have investigated thermal and mechanical properties of PU elastomers prepared from the mixture of an aromatic polyol and a poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG), 4,4′-Methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI) and 1,4-butanedidol (BD). Thermal properties of the PUs were studied employing DSC and DMA. Mechanical properties of the PUs were measured with UTM and hardness tester. It was found that increasing aromatic polyol content of the PU resulted in the increases of Tg of soft segment, modulus, and hydrophobicity of the surface. |
