제목 Design of Novel Lactic Acid Copolymers for Biodegradable Biomedical Materials
초록 Poly(lactic acid)s, PLAs, and the copolymers have been frequently applied as implantable carriers for drug delivery systems as well as surgical repair materials. However, the high crystallinity of PLAs interferes with the controlled degradation and compatibility with soft tissues. Moreover, most of PLAs and the copolymers prepared previously have no functional (reactive) group in the structure. Possible promising approaches to overcome these problems are introduction of hydrophilic/reactive segments in PLAs. In recent years, we have developed novel biodegradable lactic acid copolymers having hydrophilic/reactive segments, such as poly(depsipeptide-r-lactide), poly(depsipeptide-b-lactide) and poly(lactic acid)-grafted polysaccharides. In this presentation, synthetic methods, biodegradability, mechanical property, morphology of these copolymers are introduced. Moreover, their application as biodegradable biomedical materials, such as biodegradable scaffold for tissue engineering or drug delivery devices are reported.
