Fabrication of electrospun scaffolds by self-bundling approach for neural tissue engineering |

Neural tissue engineering has been attracted a lot of attentions as a new approach to treat neural disease by combination of cells, scaffolds and drug delivery. Especially the use of tissue engineering scaffolds is capable of connecting nerve gap and aligning cells. Electrospinning has been utilized to fabricate scaffold inducing cell alignment with rotating speed rotating collector. In this study, a new way to prepare aligned scaffolds is introduced. A custom-made rotating collector with low speed was utilized and ionic salts were added to polymer solution to fabricate self-bundled electrospun scaffolds. The highly aligned fibers with large diameter were confirmed and the mechanical property of the scaffolds was characterized. The applicability of the scaffolds was evaluated by cell study. This scaffold fabrication technique can contribute to the development of advanced electrospun scaffolds thereby can be applied for neural tissue engineering. |
