Stents are considered as the best technique for the treatment of atherosclerosis. However, they have drawbacks such as in-stent restenosis, late thrombosis, and delayed re-endothelialization. In this study, we have find out a novel approach of surface modification using persulfated flavonoids to overcome these limitations. Simply, Co-Cr specimens were modified using gallic acid (GA), or rutin (Ru), and the corresponding persulfated derivatives (GAS, and RuS). In vitro proliferation test with endothelial cells demonstrated higher tendency for persulfated surface, especially RuS, as compared to the corresponding antioxidants. Modified substrates showed lower smooth muscle cells proliferation. In addition, Ru and RuS displayed the lowest tendency toward fibrinogen adsorption and platelet adhesion. In conclusion, it is believed that persulfated flavonoids, especially RuS can accelerate re-endothelialization and improve blood compatibility for stent application and medical devices. |
