Fabrication of a gecko-like hierarchical fibril array using a porous alumina template and their adhesion/friction behavior |

We suggest a new method to fabricate a hierarchical nanofibril array by using porous alumina templates. The fabrication approach extends a powerful and well-established technique of creating porous alumina to create a polymer multilevel structure, mimicking the hierarchical structure of gecko adhesive foot hairs. Polymer nanofibrils with various shape and size were investigated for their adhesion and friction properties using atomic force microscopy. The hierarchical polymer nanofibril array exhibited superior tribological properties, at both these scales when compared to those of other nanopatterns. |
