Surface wettability of solid materials has been regarded as an important subject from the academic and industrial point of view. In this study, superhydrophobic surfaces based on polydopamine (PDA) and silver nanoparticles followed by their fluorination were fabricated. The PDA coating with nanoscaled roughness could be deposited onto polycarbonate by oxidative polymerization of dopamine under dynamic conditions. Ag nanoparticles could be immobilized onto the PDA surfaces by treating it with aqueous AgNO3 at room temperature. Fluoromodified PDA coating showed a WCA about 140° and fluoromodified PDA/Ag nanoparticle hybrid coating showed a WCA higher than 150°, thus superhyrophobic surfaces could be achieved. The obtained superhydrophobic coating exhibit excellent self-cleaning effect. Furthermore, photothermal effects can be observed due to the presence of nanostructured PDA layer, which can be applicable to effective removal of ice formed onto solid substrates in cold weather. |
